During this special Year of Mercy which was  proclaimed by Pope Francis, a Walk of Mercy has been introduced in the Cathedral of SS Patrick and Felim.  Families and individuals are invited to take a leaflet on the Walk of Mercy, which can be found at the Door of Mercy, which is the door to the right of the Cathedral and to follow the nine stations along the path in a spirit of prayer and reflection.  People can participate in the walk at any time of the day, but they are especially encouraged to go on the Walk of Mercy on Saturdays from 3-4pm, so that they can incorporate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (in Cathedral 3pm – 4pm) into their walk.

The Irish Cancer Society’s Care to Drive service is currently seeking volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments in Cavan General Hospital.  They are looking for volunteers from all over Co. Cavan to pick local patients up at their homes, drive them to the door of the hospital, pick them up again when they are finished their treatment and bring them home.  The service is free to the patient and all drivers expenses are paid.  Telephone Rebecca on 01 2316 642 or email   There are many patients who cannot get to their treatments for a number of reasons:

    1. Patients are living on their own with little or no immediate family support
    2. The patients family is not in the immediate vicinity
    3. The patients family cannot take time off work to bring them to and from the hospital (when the recession really hit, people became afraid of taking time off work)
    4. Patients are elderly and cannot drive (and their spouse cannot drive)
    5. The treatment is too aggressive and the patient has been advised not to drive
